How To Create A Paper Pieced Paper Doll Card

Hello!  Susie here to share a slimline card using one of my favorite foiled paper techniques - paper piecing!

Rinea released a brand new color this month and it is gorgeous! The first thing I did when I opened my package of the Merlot/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper was to take a small piece and crumple it up.  I love the texture created when it gets flattened out again!

I am a collector of Julie Nutting's Mixed Media Doll stamps so I imagine you will see them in a few of my projects this year.  To create a primary image for this card, I stamped my doll on watercolor paper, trimmed her out, and had fun coloring her hair, face, and feet.  Paper piecing simply involves stamping on paper, trimming it out, and then adding it to the primary stamped image. I created a pretty sophisticated outfit by dressing this lovely lady in foiled paper, right?

I used the crumpled paper for her pants and I think it looks like crushed velvet! Her jacket was pieced from the unblemished glossy paper straight out of the pack.  I ran a black marker along the edge to color the inner layer of paper. You can see in the pictures that the color shifts a little depending on the lighting.

 

Here's a peek at the inside of the card.

 She really "pops" off of the background thanks to her fancy threads!
